|Thetford Park, by John and Pierre Bédard. This book is a short novel about traveling from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Liverpool, England during World War II in a ship stuffed to the gunwales with ammo.
Thetford Park was completed shortly before John passed away. The title is in honor of the town of Thetford Mines, my mother’s home town, an asbestos mining town in the Québec Eastern Townships, . A “Park” vessel was a type of merchant ship based on an english design.
In late 2011, John’s health started deteriorating and I decided to get Thetford Park finished, so instead of studying for a retake of the exam, I completed the book. I changed the ending in search of a little redemption along the way. In my father’s memory.
