David Thompson on the ‘74 North Saskatchewan fell off broadside from a dump truck that aided us for the portage onto Lake Winnapegosis. It hit the asphalt at 40 m.p.h.. Ste. Adolphe race, we had native kids throwing rocks from the shore at us in Winnipeg. We were hovering just outside of their effective range. Johnny Corkett, referee of another Ste Alophe (‘76) was sleeping at the finish line and was awakened with five canoes stealthily hitting the shoreline simultaneously so that he could not place an order for the race roster finale. He was laughed at and ridiculed on the spot. Favourite canoe: Peguis, for the Grand Portage! Was known for the lightest boat in the fleet. I believe the choice of canoe was based on pulling names out of a hat! Thanks for the podcast Pierre. Richard, James.
